Living in Randolph Center

Randolph Center sits along the crest of a north-south ridge, with Main Street (part of it Vermont Route 66) running its length. It was the first of Randolph's villages, established in 1783, and became an important stop on the stagecoach route between Boston and Montreal. When the Central Vermont Railroad came through the valley to the west, the town's commercial center shifted to what's now Randolph village, which left Randolph Center with a well-preserved street of Federal and Greek Revival homes, churches, and community buildings. The historic district runs along Main Street from roughly Furnace Street to South Randolph Street.

The village's old Randolph Academy grounds are now the Randolph campus of Vermont State University, formerly Vermont Technical College.

Down in Randolph village are Gifford Medical Center, the Chandler Music Hall, shops and restaurants, and the Amtrak station, where the Vermonter stops daily on its run between Washington, D.C., and St. Albans. I-89 has an exit near the center of town.
