Weston is a small Windsor County town of about 620 people on Vermont Route 100 and the West River. Its historic village, laid out around the Farrar Park green, is home to the original Vermont Country Store, founded here in 1946, and the Weston Playhouse, Vermont's oldest professional theater, founded in 1935. Weston students attend Flood Brook School for grades K-8 and choose their high school, including Burr and Burton Academy in Manchester. Current Weston listings appear at the bottom of this page, and our Weston market report shows recent sales and prices.
Weston village began around 1780 with a sawmill where Cold Spring Brook meets the West River, and grew into the village you see today. The 62-acre historic district, along Route 100, centers on Farrar Park, the green laid out in the 1880s, and includes the 1795 Farrar Tavern, where the town held its first town meeting, the Wilder Memorial Library, and homes from the late 1700s to the 1930s.
Vrest and Ellen Orton opened the Vermont Country Store here in 1946, and the Weston Playhouse Theatre Company, founded in 1935, is Vermont's oldest professional theater. Bromley is a short drive west, and Route 100 leads north to Ludlow and Okemo.
Weston is part of the Taconic and Green Regional School District, in the Bennington-Rutland Supervisory Union. Students in grades K-8 attend Flood Brook School in Londonderry. For high school, families choose among options including Burr and Burton Academy in Manchester, Green Mountain Union High School in Chester, Leland and Gray Union High School in Townshend, and Long Trail School in Dorset.
Buyers in Weston find historic village homes, farmhouses, homes along the West River, rural homes and estates on acreage, and land. See what's for sale now in the listings below, and check recent sale prices in the Weston market report, which updates as homes sell.
For homes near the West River or its brooks, read the seller's flood disclosure, check the flood zone and flood history, and price flood insurance. For older village homes, plan for a thorough inspection, including lead paint for homes built before 1978. Planning to rent the property short term? Check the town's current rules first.
Vermont's property transfer tax, paid by the buyer at closing, is 0.5% on the first $200,000 of a primary residence and 1.47% above that; 3.62% for a second home suitable for year-round use; and a VHFA-financed primary residence is exempt on the first $250,000. Estimate your payment, transfer tax, and cash to close with our Vermont Home Cost Calculator, and see our Vermont home inspection guide.
