Living in Georgia
Georgia combines Lake Champlain frontage with an easy I-89 commute. Its western edge lies on the lake and St. Albans Bay, and the town beach park includes a playground, picnic pavilion, tennis and basketball courts, ballfields, and a boat launch onto the lake. It's open spring through fall and reopens in winter for lake access once the ice is in.
The town also has a good set of walking trails: the 44-acre Russell Green Natural Area off Route 104A with a roughly 2-mile loop, Silver Lake Woods on the east side of town, and the 35-acre Mill River Falls Natural Area with about 3.5 miles of trails. The town's main recreation area, the Peter and Frances Mallett Municipal Recreation Area, is on Georgia Shore Road, and the Lamoille River crosses the southeast corner of town.
Georgia has a colorful history: during the War of 1812, its residents enforced the embargo so effectively that smugglers took to calling the town "Hell's Gate." Today, St. Albans is just north, and Burlington is to the south on I-89.
Schools and High School Choice
Georgia is in the Franklin West Supervisory Union. Georgia Elementary and Middle School serves PreK through grade 8, and its graduates choose their high school; recent choices have included BFA St. Albans, BFA Fairfax, Essex, Colchester, South Burlington, and Winooski.
