While Europe makes headlines, the American West is quietly unraveling.

Vail Resorts—the largest ski resort operator in North America—reported in January that snowfall in the Rockies was 60 percent below the 30-year average for November and December 2025. Vail Mountain recorded its worst snowpack in 47 years: just 4.4 inches of snow-water equivalent. Only 11 percent of terrain was open as of January 4, 2026.
